I have bought a new Win8 phone, having used my trusty Win6, for many years, neatly cable-sync'd with my PC. Perfect.
I have tried many, many times trying to Export/Import from the old product to the new Outlook account, linked to skydrive.
No dice. It simply will not import the pst file. Point blank refusal. I suspect it was way too hopeful to expect that it would work as simply as it appears to on the instructional video's.
I tried to import each part separately, Contacts, Calendar and Emails, with following results.
Contacts
I had limited success with contacts, importing them via csv, but lost
- the contact photo's;
- all the groups I had established;
- it appears there is a new character limit on the "notes" for each contact, the rest just severed into oblivion
- the colour coded "Categorize" in all my contacts data.
Calendar
I had no success with Calendar at all. It reports:-
Calendar import error"There's a problem with the ICS file you're trying to add. Something may have gone wrong when the file was originally exported. You may want to re-export the file and try again"
"Been there done that" - followed all the instructions to the letter, & every conceivable permeation, over and over again - it is not willing to play.
I even got a screen that told me It would not be able to import diary entries beyond Jan 1, 2014, and not be able to accept recurring entries at all, AND THEN it still refused import the entries between the dates it said it could do!
And since when are we forced to look at calendars set commence each week on a Monday? I can't find any customising menu to set preferences anywhere back to Sunday, where normal people have had it for centuries?
Forget it - there is not even a menu to import (I cant find any option anywhere). How are you supposed to import all your historical emails into the system?
This business with translating the POP account across seems so convoluted, forwarding emails to the live account and then back again - what a crock!
Years ago I successfully upgraded from Win5 to Win6 on computer and phone - it took me under 30 minutes. But it appears this new regime is aiming for 30 days, or perhaps 30 months! and even then ...who knows if it will work?
I am super frustrated at this new innovation! It is in no way user friendly, and shows little respect for the value of my data accumulated over many years.
Shoulda gone with Android or iphone!
