I am desperate to switch from gmail, and every few months I've tried doing so but keep running up against the same problems.
My current situation is this: I have the domain stubbornminions DOT co DOT uk. My primary email address (elliot AT) is on that domain, which is then forwarded to my gmail account. That same email address is the one I use for my Microsoft account.
If I add my gmail account to Outlook, it begins importing the mail but does several things wrong:
1) It doesn't recognise that the email address listed above is me. It therefore puts all my sent mail into my inbox
2) As a consequence of the above (I suppose), conversations between me and others are listed as separate emails (I do have conversation view turned on).
3) The above two issues aside, conversations still go awry. Sometimes some related emails end up grouped whereas others don't. Other times all emails are separate.
The whole thing is maddening. There's just no way I can move away from gmail unless I can bring all my old mail with me.
By the way, I've added the stubbornminions.co.uk address as a send account as well it being associated with my MS account - how can Outlook not know that emails from that address were sent by me?
I've attached a screen grab below. Note that the Elliot Harris at the top is also me, but that it's from a totally different address that Outlook doesn't know about. Still, see how it's not grouped with the other email of the same subject at the bottom?
I've tried this a thousand different ways with varying results, but never the desired one. I imagine there's no way around these problems at this stage. But I would love to know the the Outlook team is aware of the problems and has a plan to fix it.
Thanks for your inputs,
Elliot
