Hi,

After struggling for a day to configure my yahoo accounts with Windows Live mail, I have achieved the objective, but there are some really weird issues I see.

Background first:

A. Yahoo accounts are configured as IMAP and not POP.

B. I am using Windows 7 desktop.

Issue: I am having difficulty syncing the following folders:

a. 'Sent Items' in Windows Live Mail vs 'Sent' in Yahoo

b. 'Deleted Items' in Windows Live Mail vs 'Trash' in Yahoo

d. 'Sent Items' in Windows Live Mail vs 'Sent' in Yahoo

These serve the same purpose, but windows can't seem to understand it and when it syncs, we create folders for both. So when I do folder sync, in addition to the regular 'Sent Items' folder... I also get 'Sent' (from yahoo webmail). I get 'Deleted Items' .. and 'Trash'. I get 'Junk E-mail' and 'Spam'. I get 'Sent Items' and 'Sent'.

A simple example. When I send a mail out from Windows Live Mail (for a yahoo account), the sent mail goes to 'Sent Items' folder.

If I sent the same mail from Yahoo webmail, it goes to 'Sent' folder. Windows is doing the right thing by preserving both folders to cater to mails sent from both sources.., but this is quite ridiculous from a user's perspective.

e. I think a similar problem happens for 'Drafts' folder. Windows Live mail creates a 'Drafts' folder. It also syncs the yahoo webmail 'Drafts' folder, but renames it to 'Draft'. So I get two folders for drafts in Live Mail... One 'Drafts' from windows and one 'Draft' from yahoo.. And the same gets synched back to yahoo as two folder... My guess is that if I save a draft mail from Windows UI, it would get saved in the 'Drafts' folder. If I do that from yahoo webmail, it would go to the 'Draft' folder. Same problem...

f. A funnier thing for junk. Yahoo puts those in 'Spam' folder. Windows Live creates its own folder called 'Junk E-mail'. It seems that the 'Spam' folder from yahoo gets synched to windows with a name 'Bulk Mail'. And then this gets re-synched to yahoo as another folder 'Junk E-mail'. So yahoo webmail has 'Spam' and 'Junk E-mail', whereas windows has 'Junk E-mail' and 'Bulk Mail'. I don't even know where the 'Bulk Mail' came from...

Can windows Live Mail team look in to this and settle the mapping?

Rgds,

Jauhari
