I lost ALL my messenger contacts when i switched to skype, how can i retrieve them?

I lost ALL my messenger contacts when i switched to skype, how can i retrieve them? Also when i am signed into MSN i can see e-mails that arrive, yet i must log in again to read them in outlook, why?
