windows 7 pc 64bit, windows live mail version 2009 Build 14.0.8.8117 01 16

my pc is normally really fast but when I compose a new email and click send the mouse pointer turns to an hourglass andstays that way for 10-20 seconds before the email is in the outbox and ready to go. Why does this happen? is there a fix for it?
