I cannot log into my email account

Three years ago I was set up with an account ending live.mdx.ac.uk (mdx being an abbreviation for my university). I have always accessed it via msn.com however recently I have been unable as it throws me this message back...

You're currently signed in with an Office 365 email account, which can't be used with Outlook.com. Please click here to sign out of your Office 365 account, then use another Microsoft account to sign in to Outlook.com (for example, your hotmail.com, live.com, or msn.com account).

When I click the here link it simply takes me back to msn.com 

I spoke to msn customer services over the telephone and they said I should post it on here and await a response.
