Question: Can I install just the Windows (File) Explorer part of Windows 7 on my Win XP, with Service PAK 7, computer? Note that I own 2 HP-Pavilion Laptop computers, one from 2005 with Win XP & Service PAK 7, and a second with the Win7-Pro operating system. I am happy with these 2 machines configured as they are as I have older legacy software that I run on the older XP machine and newer software that I run on the Win7-Pro machine.
The reason I am asking this is because if I try to use Windows (File) Explorer, on my XP machine, to explore Hotmail EMail message folders and files, downloaded using Windows Live Mail to my win7-Pro machine hard drive and subsequently copied to a USB flash drive, I cannot set up the Windows Explorer column headers to display the EMail message Subject (titles), Date Received/Sent or Authors. Furthermore, the default message headers are not useful as they contain things like the EMail message "Name" which is an oddball 16 character alpha numeric descriptor, such as 02B153B2-00000019.
For my Windows 7-Pro computer, I can use Windows (File) Explorer and right click on the file header and uncheck and check off column headings that I want to display, such as unchecking the file type, date downloaded, and checking off to display the Subject, Date Received/Sent and Authors. This works fine on my Win7-Pro computer but not on the XP machine. When I try to check off to display things like Subject, Date Received/Sent and Authors on my XP machine, these headers do appear but the columns underneath are blank. Why?
