How do I remove the short delay at the starting point of each segment when uploading multiple files to make one cohesive video

I'm in the process of editing video footage and I'm using Windows movie maker. I've uploaded three files and they've merged successfully - with the exception of a short delay at the starting point of each segment. How can this delay be removed?
