Have had a hotmail.com a/c for many years. I now need another email a/c. Can I keep my current a/c and apply for a second one?

I've operated a hotmail email a/c for a long time. Soon this will be transferred to outlook.com.

My question is this: I now need a second email account. Can I have two hotmail/outlook email accounts?
