Disappearing emails

A few days ago I discovered that emails in my in box older than 2012 had disappeared.  However, when someone accessed my account from another site a few minutes later the missing emails were in place and the particular email I was looking for was emailed to me.

A day later there were only 15 emails left in my inbox.  I have ignored all the messages about updating to Outlook or changed any settings, so I haven't done anything to initiate the disappearance.  I am most alarmed as I have lost some important information that I will need in the future.

Can anyone help me retrieve these emails.
