I have used Movie Maker many times for small projects, but when I tried to use it this week, I found that it was no longer working properly. I know it is no longer supported, but it used to work and now it doesn't, so something has changed. There have been several Microsoft automatic updates since I last used it, so I wondered if anybody could advise whether one of these could have
a) modified Windows Essentials, or
b) modified some file that Movie Maker was dependent on.
The symptom I see is as follows :
Previously :
I open a video file, and it appears in the time line as Begin..........,,,,,,,...................End.
I want to cut a scene out of it, so I make a Split before and after the piece I want to remove (let's call the split points A and B),
so it would show Begin......A,,,,,,,B...............End
then I would right-click the section to be removed and select Cut. Then, the time line would show
Begin......AB...............End (with the section between A and B removed. The actual split points would be merged into one)
Now, I do the same operation, but when I right-click the section to remove and select Cut, the section is greyed out, but remains on the time line, and if I save the file, that section is still in it.
I have tried un-installing it and reinstalling Movie Maker from a non-Microsoft website, but the new one still behaves the same way.
If Microsoft has disabled the program, then there's nothing I can do about it, but if it is due to a dependency, I may be able to load an older version of it.
