My old XP PC will not start up and I have replaced it with a new on running Windows 8.1 and Windows Live Mail. I have removed the hard drive from the old PC and connected it to the new one in order to copy important items across. I have changed the permissions etc. in order to gain access to these items and copied some documents across. I am now trying to copy my old Outlook Express email storage folder and am able to open it and see the contents. I have tried copying these across to the desktop on my new PC but cannot paste it. I am getting a message that I need permission from my new PC to do this. I have tried importing the messages directly into my Windows Live Mail but get the message that the folder is empty, I obviously know that it is not. So are the contents of the folder incompatible to WLM? If so is there anything that I can do to them to make them compatible? Or can I provide the permission to copy and paste and do some process on my new PC to enable them to be read?
