A couple of months ago I successfully imported my .pst file, which was about 2GB, from my PC (Windows 7) to my new Mac (OS X). Both products were using Office 365 Home (which really means the Mac is using Office for Mac 2011). One of the issues I
discovered early on is that while the PC uses a folder/subfolder approach, the migrated Outlook folders on the Mac APPEAR to use a flat folder alphabetical approach, but that is wrong. Example:
PC: Mac:
'Outlook on PC' 'On My Computer'
Inbox Drafts
Drafts Inbox
Outbox Junk E-mail
Sent Items Outbox
Junk E-mail 'Outlook on PC'
Sent Items
Notice the different locations of the folder named 'Outlook on PC' on the PC and on the Mac. On the PC, all the folders under 'Outlook on PC' are independent (although necessary) sub-folders. On the Mac, it would APPEAR that ALL the folders under 'On My Computer' are independent sub-folders, but that would be an incredibly bad assumption (I learned the hard way). On the Mac, all the folders ARE IN FACT still sub-folders to the 'Outlook on PC' folder, even though it is listed alphabetically as just another folder. Again, I learned this the hard way the first time I imported the .pst file. If you delete the 'Outlook on PC' folder on the Mac, it takes all the data of the other folders (that were sub-folders on the PC) with it!!! Wow! Fortunately, I had backups.
Okay, now the new problem. Today, I decided to clean up these other, unused, folders under 'On My Computer' on my Mac (such as Outbox, Sent Items, and… 'Outlook on PC'). First, I dragged the folders I wanted to permanently keep to 'On My Computer' and then deleted the others, including 'Outlook on PC'. Then I went to 'Deleted Items' under my Outlook Inbox (not part of 'On My Computer') and performed 'Empty Folder'. Towards the end of the Empty Folder process, I noticed it was deleting several thousand items! Ooops? It finished, I checked my 'On My Computer' folders to make sure all the emails looked like they were still there, and they were. Yay! Or so I thought! A few minutes later I clicked on my Outlook Calendar to see what my schedule looked like and… NOT a SINGLE calendar item was ANYWHERE to be seen!!! OH NOOOOOOOOO!!! Now, I have actually already fixed the situation because of Time Machine and its' ease of use. I simply went back a couple of hours, restored the 'Main Identity' for 'Office 2011 Identities', and all is well.
Please help me answer these questions to further understand how and why this happened:
1) Originally, on the PC, since the Outlook Calendar WAS actually a sub-folder of 'Outlook on PC', is that why my calendar items were deleted when I deleted the folder called 'Outlook on PC' on the Mac? (Even though it looked empty on the Mac.)
2) On the Mac, I was able to move the folders I wanted to permanently keep to the 'On My Computer' folder. How do I move the Outlook Calendar items on the Mac in the same manner? (Or must I ALWAYS keep this silly folder called 'Outlook on PC'? (I guess I could rename it to 'All The Important Stuff From My PC') (lol)).
Thank you for any wisdom you can provide.
Hi
I am using Microsoft outlook 2011 for email correspondence. Recently experiencing a peculiar issue. I have created specific rules for specific sender and when the sender sending email with attachment, I can find only a txt file as an attachment but original one is missing. But when I am disabling the rule, then email with original attachment arrived in the actual inbox. I am using iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.7.x)
It will be great if you pleas provide me some idea about the reason.
Thanks
Shankar
I'm using Outlook for Mac 2011 v 14.4.3 on a MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2013) running OS/X 10.9.4.
I'm using Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client v 3.1.04074 to access my company's Exchange server.
I've noticed recently that when my VPN disconnects (e.g., after putting the computer to sleep), and then I re-connect, the Outlook app does not re-connect to the Exchange server like it used to. It previously re-connected in seconds, now it seems to take minutes if ever. I have resorted to stopping and restarting the Outlook app to get reconnected.
There must be some recent change to OS/X or Outlook that has altered the application's behavior when the VPN connection re-establishes... perhaps there is some network retry timer in Outlook that has changed.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior? I've tried searching the community messages but I'm not seeing this problem reported elsewhere.

I’m working with Word for Mac 2011 and OS X 10.9. How can I synchronize Outlook’s contacts and calendar with the contacts and calendar on my Macbook, my Android phone and/or Google? I don’t want to use MS Exchange.
Thanks,
Holger
While in Mac Outlook 2011 I can receive but cannot send or reply to emails.
I receive error message 5.7.1. At the bottom of the error message is reads gmail error 17099.
However, when I log into gmail via the internet I can send emails.
Having had to have a new HDrive after only 13mths for my new IMAC I have had to use migration assistant synchronising data from my airbook to my mac.
Since it has returned I have my calendar replicating every entry 10s of times and every time I make a move on the calendar it starts determining changes and each time the number increases.
Each time it does this the rollerball starts each time I move the mouse
Help - sooooo fed up with this excuse for a piece of software that clearly does not sit comfortably ie Microsoft and Apple...
Thanks
I have just added 2 new imap email boxes to my outlook. I have them running on ipad and iphone with no issues but the laptop keeps popping up with an error message.
I keep getting the following:
"The server for account "Geffen Mike" returned the error "maximum number of connections from user +IP exceeded (mail_max_userip_connections). Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?"
I know the username/password for the emails are correct as i'am still able to send and receive.
Anyone got any clues as to how I can fix?
Thanks
Mark
