Has Mircosoft fixed the problem with Outlook for Mac accepting tasks sent from other Outlook users?  Or is there a work around?  Thanks.
Hello. I am currently switching from years of working with Outlook for Windows and going to Outlook for Mac. Im trying to understand the differences. In particular, I have a very large file with lots of old mail I want to hold onto and import in - so backing up is important. I am confused by what I read on a site that links here "officeformachelp.com" It seems to say the outlook database is "time machine friendly" but then says it is "purposely excluded from Time Machine and should be excluded from all backup solutions". So what is the proper way to back up my mail files for safety and/or for use in another mac, say I am to switch computers in the future after I start using it on my current mac? The instructions below seem to say you CAN back it up, but then says it would be pointless to.

The site's text below in italics:

"Outlook’s Database is Time Machine friendly as well as optimized to work other backup solutions. They only need back up just changed files and not all files...

Neither Entourage nor Outlook offer backup tools but instead rely on the end-user to create his own solution. Each application requires a different backup strategy.

Outlook’s Database is purposely excluded from Time Machine backups and should be excluded from all backup solutions. While the Microsoft Database Daemon is running, the Database file is in use and cannot be properly copied to a backup location without inducing potential corruption, making it useless when restored."

1) Can I backup Outlook for Mac with Time Machine?

Yes, Outlook for Mac can now be backed up with Time Machine.

When you restore, you will need to restore the entire Identity. I suggest saving to the Desktop and rename before dragging it to the Microsoft User Data folder > Office 2011 Identities folder. You can then “Switch Identity” to export individual items if needed.

I am trying to setup outlook 2011 to run with our exchange server Public folder, the problems I am having is the Public Folder email boxes.

Adding public folders is no problem, but I want to restrict how many emails it syncs, currently our Support (public) folder holds 58.000 emails, which is way to much to sync and causes freezes and breakdowns of outlook. (Deleting all in that public folder is not an option at the moment, because they need to be archived away). Network admin explained that in outlook 2013 on windows machines, we don't download any of the emails in public folder on our machines.

No so much of a Windows expert in that area to be honest, more experience in running MAC networks (MAC server and workstations)

The other problem I am having is the speed of the sync, for example in my outlook 2013 on windows 7 machine, the emails I tick in the Support (public) folder are updated right away, all my colleagues see the tickt email the moment I tick it. On Mac outlook 2011 takes at least a min to update. (know how to change the schedule)

Driving me nuts, looked around here and in google search for hours to find a probable solution, because according to Network admin Mac outlook 2011 should work the same as Windows outlook 2013, which I explained is not really the case.

Any help is really appreciated!!

I recently archived my emails from from Outlook 2011 to a .olm file on my desktop.  I did not pay close enough attention and accidentally selected the delete after archiving thinking that I was only archiving a older portion of my emails.  Instead it appears to have archived all my emails and deleted them, including years of emails that I had saved in about 18 subfolders under my inbox.

I imported the .olm file and it created a archived email folder.  I am attempting to import them back into my exchange inbox however I cannot find the emails that were in the subfolders.  When they were archived should they have been archived in the subfolders they were in?

Or are they merely dumped into the Archived "Inbox" and I have to sort them manually?  If there a way to recover them in the subfolders they were originally in?  Thanks for you help in advance.

  1. I am on a PC using outlook 2011. My wife is on a Mac, using outlook for Mac (the most recent version). We have both used outlook for years with no problems, sharing calendar "invites" with no problem. Something has changed recently, and we cannot figure it out. My wife can send me invites and they come in just fine, saving to my local outlook. However, when I send her an invite, it sends like normal on my end, and yet does not come into her inbox looking like a normal invitation...it simply shows the heading I entered on my calendar, but looks more like an email (see attached screen shot). There is no option for her to accept the invitation as it has before. So, she cant accept the invitation and cannot add it to her local calendar.

What setting could have been changed here?

    Thank you.

Can anyone  help me with Outlook 2011 for MAC.

In outlook 2011 in my iMac 5K Yosemite, I have just installed outlook 2011.

I am unable to add POP email account. When I click Email Account in the Tools>Account menu, nothing happens.

Though, I am able to put info in Exchange email, which I don’t want.

Have someone has the solution for it.

Thanks
Reny

I see that there are a few software's that you can buy to repair a corrupt OLM Mac file. Is there a free software/solution? I just need it for an OLM file that has about 30 Notes and my contacts. Thanks.

P.S. I already tried opening up this file on a different Mac..... Clean outlook 2011 install. No go.

I accidentally saved a Word document I was editing that was opened in Outlook.  I can see it in the Outlook Temp folder when I do a "save as" to verify the file was indeed saved but I cannot get to it.  I've gone to the Finder and pasted ~/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/Outlook Temp/ in the search bar but nothing comes up.

Can some please tell me how to find them?  I don't want to re-edit the document.

Thank you in advance.

I am migrating to outlook.com, using Outlook 2011 for Mac to upload my folders to the server. In some folders, emails that have content in the Outlook for mac viewer do not appear to have any content in the web interface. Additionally, when I sync he folder to my phone, the email still appears to have no content.

Details:

OS: OSX Yosemite

The issue happens when I use a different browser as well

I mainly use Safari

If I forward the message from Outlook for Mac, the email's contents show. If I forward it from the web interface, the content appears to disappear.

Thanks for the help.
