I have tried adding PST and an OLM on separate occasions, to check if it could be used like in Windows, wherein the pst gets updated automatically, so when you want to transfer or make a backup, you just locate the .pst file and transfer/backup.
But i found out that in Outlook for mac 2011, this does not happen. I even quit Outlook and moved/deleted the original file, but when i opened Outlook it opened successfully, and i could still see the archive files. In windows the same would result in an error message saying file cannot be found, please provide path.
The reason i am trying to make this work is because the export feature for OLM in outlook for mac , does not allow to set a specific date, so it takes everything from day one till date and exports it. So now if add an existing archive mails for one year, and start archiving my current mails to my existing archive to top it up, then when i export, it exports everything which includes my exchange mails and my archive mails all in one.
Does any one knows the path in which the original added archive file stays, so i can just copy that file as a backup, instead of doing export everytime i want a backup. ?
thanks.
This question is similar to the following asked in 2011. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macoutlook/cant-delete-a-folder-in-tasks-side-bar/22b4b1b4-92e0-454c-b921-9109ca8ec2f5
Essentially, I installed Outlook 2016 beta and then imported a PST file from Outlook 2013. My new Outlook primarily is using Exchanges. These tasks folders on are not among the Exchange and they obviously were created during the import.
There does not appear to be any option in the user interface to delete these useless phantom task folders. I assume this could be done by deleting one of the configuration files, but I am not sure where.
New folder are created in the Exchange tasks and work fine.
Dear community,
I have a problem regarding the export / import of a .OLM file :
- I have Outlook 2011 on a MacBook Air, where I store a lot of emails in an archive folder, with sub-folders (this came initially from a .PST file that I imported from my PC to my Mac successfully)
- I have a new MacBook Air with Outlook 2011, where I would like to import these folders and sub-folders. So I followed the process of exporting to a .OLM file, and then importing this .OLM file
- But some of the folders are missing on the new computer
- I noticed that only the folders starting with "A_" (as opposed to "B_") were not imported. So I renamed them on the old computer, did the export / import process again (after having deleted the archive imported previously on the new computer). And I still have some folders missing. Besides, one of the folders that I renamed has been imported, but a lot of emails are missing in it.
Is there is a limitation on the data size ?
Do you know how I can sort this out ?
Many thanks in advance,
Thomas
I have problem with Outlook for Mac 2011, specifically my sent file folder. When I open (double click) sent emails the following fields are all editable: To, From, Subject and Attachment. The sent file opens in resend mode. As a result of this, when I reply to this message in a discussion thread, the reply date and time are not recorded in my reply nor are the reply arrows visible in my sent folder. I have confirmed that these messages have been received.
I have rebuilt my database
I have created a new identity & resynch with Exchange
I upgraded 14.5.3
Problem still exists!!!
Any thoughts?
Thank you
I rebuilt the database and still had the same problem.
Today, I am unable to cancel a meeting, received the following error message "Unexpected data was encountered. Mail could not be sent. Error Code 17997.
Appreciate any insights.
On June 29 a power blackout shut down the computer (iMac i7 OSX 6.8). The next day I found the entire Outlook contents of all emails was missing.
On June 30 I went through the process of restoring the identity (which I had had to do several times before). I used the latest identity, November 20 2014, the last time I had been forced to rebuild the emails database.
The operation restored almost all emails, but none of those between November 2014 and June 30 2015. There is no reason for those emails to be selected or treated any differently from the rest which go back to 2006.
I tried several more times but could not recover those six months of emails. My ISP could not provide them from its bankups.
Finally yesterday, with the help of my son, I tried to solve the problem using Time Machine. I went back to June 27 and followed the steps to restore the identity and emails on the system at that time.
The operation went according to the suggested steps, except that renaming the Main Identity on the Desktop to "Restored Main Identity" had no apparent effect, because when dragged to the Documents>MS User Data>Office 2011 folder, it immediately changed its name to Main Identity.
When I opened Outlook I was delighted to find the email Inbox complete. Scrolling back, there were all the emails for June, May, April, March. Suddenly after less than a minute since opening Outlook all those six months of emails DISAPPEARED. I would not believe it except there were two witnesses looking over my shoulder.
Subsequent attempts to go back in Time Machine to restore Outlook only produced the same result - six months of emails missing.
It would seem that Outlook defaulted to the Identity as restored on June 30 - that is missing the six months.
It is clear that the six months of emails are still on my system, and can be accessed via Time Machine. What is not clear is what happened and why the full email database was not stabilised when it was restored.
This is just about the last straw in having to deal with this unstable, unreliable and frankly dangerous program. I'd be grateful if some of the community leaders could diagnose the problem and show me a way out of the mess.
I used to send mail merge emails with personalised attachments using Outlook 2011 for Mac. Now I can't.
The crazy thing is I get two different error messages depending on which account is the default in Outlook. This for a Google account:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
*** Email address is removed for privacy ***
Technical details of permanent failure:
Internal parse error: Illegal envelope To: address (invalid domain name): *** Email address is removed for privacy ***
and this for an IMAP account:
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2011. I've set Mail as the default client. Quit, restarted and set Outlook as the default. I've searched the web for similar problems but cxan'tr find an answer.
when i type a mail all looks to be fine, but once i send it the lines have been shortened to no more than 75 / 80 characters. This makes the mail a mess and does not flow.
Any ideas how to stop this shortening process?
Hi,
I have macbook air 10.10.3 with outlook for mac 2011 (14.5.3) version. and I want to send restricted mail from my exchange email id. but permissions option is greyed out. please check below image. I have setup the RMS certificate, I can open receive mail but can't send restricted mail.
but my other mac machines this option is visible. even my office for mac is updated.
can you please help me? Thanks.
Hi,
I have a couple of issues with Outlook for Mac 2011 (latest updates applied, Font weeder done):
1) any emails I send look alright on my screen but arrive right-aligned at the recipient's end. Recipients are using Outlook 2010 for Windows.
I can't adjust any settings on the Mac as everything looks OK before sending. Only once I receive replies do I see that my previous message was right-aligned.
Any ideas about this?
The second issue I have is that emails do "send" with the known whooshing sound, but then they disappear. Once I notice they are not in the "sent" folder and I check webmail, I can find them in "drafts" with an error message stating that the message could not be sent. Sometimes, people reply to those emails that had disappeared from Outlook and were never sent according to webmail. This happens intermittently.
I have started to bcc myself in to ensure I have a copy of the email and ensure it was actually sent. Is there a decent solution to this error as this is suboptimal and has caused severe issues, especially with important customer contact.
Just to make it clear: outlook did never have connection issues at the time this error occurred, I was receiving emails reliably and there were no unusual issues with the exchange server (aside from the known ones that don't seem to impact on performance).
