I understand Messenger Windows desktop users will need to upgrade starting April 8. Can I continue to use Messenger on other platforms? Will other apps, services and third party experiences be affected (e.g. Trillian, Xbox, Windows 8/Windows Phone Messaging app)?

They said they're shutting it down on March 15, and then on April 8th, but it's still working.
Why is that?
I have installed skype with msn - now when I want to use skype/msn I have to first enter my microsoft account email and also the password, its a pain because Im using a home computer and my windows account is password protected. Is there a way to automatically sign in to my microsoft account? Im using windows 7 64 bit.
