Good day: I'll try to be brief, but this is complicated. Several weeks ago, I purchased a Dell XPS 8700 running Windows 8, via the Dell outlet store. On the 2nd day of using the machine, I suddenly could not login to the computer. I login to the Dell with my Hotmail account, which is my primary email account and MS account. When I tried to access that Hotmail account from another device, I also could not login to my Hotmail email from there! I sort of panicked, as I use that email for a lot of communication and I was also very concerned that I could not login to my new Dell PC.
So after a LOT of internet searching, I found some MS on-line processes for password resets/changes. I had a terrible time getting this to work, but after a lot of attempts, I finally was able to change the password and was again able to successfully login to the Dell PC and access that Hotmail email account. However, I discovered that I could not login to that Hotmail account from another device, even with the new password that works on the Dell!
After a lot of messing around, I removed that Hotmail account from my iPhone and reinstalled it using the new password and I can now access that Hotmail account via the iPhone using the same password that I use on the Dell. This is how it should be. However, there are still some very troubling issues with this Hotmail account, which is my MS account.
I can access my SkyDrive account (associated to this Hotmail account) on the Dell PC by simply clicking on the icon, but I cannot access that SkyDrive account (again, the same one associated with this Hotmail account) on the iPhone, which always worked perfectly before. When I try to use SkyDrive on the iPhone, it asks me for a userid and a password and when I provide the Hotmail account and password that is working for both the Hotmail and the SkyDrive on the Dell,, I get this message:
Did you request a security change?
Someone with the email address of XXXXXXXXX started the process to change the password or security info on this Microsoft account and it will be available again on 3/5/2014. If you made this change choose yes and we'll help you get back into your account. If you didn't make this change choose no, it wasn't me to cancel the request.
Well, I did make the request via another of my email accounts, before I was able to successfully change my password and get back into my Dell and my Hotmail, but I'm afraid to touch this now for fear that my Hotmail account will stop working altogether and I will be locked out of the Dell and my Hotmail email again. I'm also afraid that on 3/5/2014, I'll be in another mess. I would like to change some of the security info in my MS account, but accessing this is also impossible due to the same security change message I mention above. Can anyone Please tell me who to contact to get help with this? I fear that on 3/5 I'll be out in the cold again. Any assistance would so greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks and God Bless!
For 3 days I have been unable to open emails due to this issue. Including emails I have had for many years, which I could open up until 3 days ago. I also cannot send emails as it says it 'does not recognise the recipient'.
I have tried to defrag as per other questions on here, but it made no difference.
One of the advices was to uninstall the program, but the instructions to do so link goes to a dead page.
Can somebody please help me urgently as having no emails is very bad
Thanks, Paul
NEED HELP TO TRANSFER LIVE MAIL CONTACTS FROM OLD COMPUTER TO NEW COMPUTER
DESERT DWELLER
My contact list has been high jacked!
When I bought a new PC a couple of years ago I thought Windows Live Mail which came with Win 7 was simply an application to handle e-mails and a calendar very much like Eudora which I had been using for a decade.
So, I have been using it as such fairly happily for the last couple of years with my own domain-based e mail address.
I also have a Hotmail address which I rarely use. Recently my son linked his Blackberry address book to my Hotmail account, which wiped my Hotmail contacts and replaced them with his contacts.
This wasn’t a big problem, but somehow it also wiped and replaced all the contacts in my account on Windows Live Mail, which is a problem.
I don’t understand how this could happen. As far as I know there is no link between my Windows Live Mail account and Hotmail.
I am now wondering just exactly what is Windows Live Mail? Is it a stand-alone application, or is it somehow linked in the background to Hotmail?
Is there any way of getting my contacts back?
When I get an e-mail with a link to their website, when I click on the link it comes up with a box saying - "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs in the control panel".
Please help, I am very frustrated
