Question about Outlook Express

Yes -

My Windows Live Mail account is only displaying new messages from my contacts.  If I get a new message from someone other than someone in my contacts, it shows up in my Inbox for about 2 seconds, and then disappears.  It's not in my junk box, or deleted folder.  And in fact, it still shows that I have "one new message" in the lower right corner of the screen.  But I can't find or see the message.  And I've even looked in the "all unread e-mail" folder, and still nothing.   

So what appears to be happening is this: I'm getting e-mails as normal.  However, if they are not from someone in my contact lists, they are not displaying.

This gets tedious.  Wndows7 Updates have not worked for months and no "fix" fixes that, so I gave up.

Now, as of a couple of days ago, I cannot sign in to Windows Live Mail 2011 (though Outlook.com works for *** Email address is removed for privacy *** )

No "fix" works. including securely changing my password several times, as prompted and using the provided codes via my land line.

Obviously I can log on to other Microsoft services and, judging by the numbers of people with a Windows Live problem since late July, the problem must originate with Microsoft, not anything local to me/us.

I re-iterate that I have tried cited "fixes", such as running 'repair', but nothing works - as others have reported.

For a while, my emails were not showing up in my inbox and I knew that I was supposed to be receiving them. After trial & error I soon realized that, in order to receive emails, I have to send myself an email. Once I do this all of the others come through altogether. I am sure that there must be a way to fix it but I have tried everything and nothing has worked. Has anyone else experienced something similar or does anyone know how I might fix it?

Using the "Received before" field in the Find Message dialog (accessed via F4) scrubs the search. That is, using that field at all ensures that no results will appear.

Is this a quirk in WLM or is it a problem only in my system? Is there a fix or a workaround?

ADDENDUM: The Control Panel's "Repair" operation, although supposedly completed "successfully," doesn't help.

Have just changed my default email client.  The default went to the bottom and my old one is at the top.

Can I reverse this order so that default is listed on top?  Thank you: Susan

Where in Win Live Mail can I change the spacing in my the body of my text, it has single spacing and alignment but can't find where to get double spacing etc?

Live mail keeps rejecting my login.  I am trying to recover my gmail inbox & send email. When i check why if gives an responce of invalid ID. When check for errors there are no errors listed. I am using imap.gmail.com for incoming and outgoing is smtp.gmail.com. I am able to send Photo's with no problem. I use Windows 7-64bit.

any clues of what I might be doing wrong. I also am using century link for my provider.
