I have four separate POP mail accounts under my Windows Live Mail client (WLM 2011, Build 15.4.3555.0308).  When I 'Reply' to a message, it of course is sent from the account the original message came into.  That fine.  But I am usually in the 'Quick views' pane, and when I hit "Email Message" to create a new message, the message is sent from my Default account.

This is logical, but I wonder if there is some way to force WLM to ask what account to send a new message from?  Sometimes it's after I've already sent a message that I realize that I should not have used the Default account, because replies to that message will come into the wrong Inbox, and the sender may even add my Default e-mail address to his address book.

I doubt that WLM can be hotrodded to ask what account to send from when the Quick views pane is open, but could I set up a bogus account and mark it as Default?  The mail could not be sent on the next cycle, and I would be advised that the "...mail didn't go through"?  I could then simply go to the Outbox, open the unable-to-send mail and pull-down the proper From address.

Would this work, and what would be the setup parameters for the bogus account for the least confusion?  Many thanks!

I am having the same problem that Mike is having, but in reverse - for two days, mail in my default account has loaded to the Windows Live Mail platform, but none from my secondary account. Both are Hotmail accounts that I have had for over 10 years. Passwords are correctly entered in WLM, and I am receiving no errors when checking for or sending mail; I simply get "No new email" at the bottom of the window. When I access the secondary account directly via Hotmail.com/Outlook.com, all my emails from the last two days are there. I have even tried updating WLM while looking at my inbox in my web browser, and WLM still says there are no new messages.

I am running WLM 2011 on Windows Vista, and it has worked with no problems for several years. I have made no changes to the setup recently.

My delete button works to move unwanted mail from my inbox to the deleted mail folder but how do I get these items permanently deleted ? I used to have a setting in Outlook under Windows XP that would permanently delete all items in the deleted folder upon logout. I'd like to have that sort of set up again.

I recently upgraded my laptop to a SSD and Windows 7 Professional, I began to download all the things I needed on the new drive, including Windows Live Mail. I signed in to Live Mail, and tried to set up my email, but it came up with this:

Logon - Talktalk (the start of my personal email address before the '@' symbol)

Please enter your username and password for the following server.

Server: mail.talktalk.net

Username: (My email again)

Password: (my correctly entered password)

I know the password is correctly entered because I changed it and wrote it down, then entered it again exactly. Every time I click OK, it disappears then reappears after a few seconds, and it doesn't say anything about anything entered incorrectly, But when Windows Live Mail shows the error, it says a wrong password was entered, and comes up with 2 messages of this:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Talktalk (my email) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your username and password for this account.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90

Server Response: -ERR Authentication failed.

Server: 'mail.talktalk.net'

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92

Protocol: POP3

Port: 110

Secure(SSL): No

I don't know what's happening, but I'd appreciate the help so I can get on with upgrading my laptop. :)

Using Windows Live Mail 2012 on WIN7 64-bit for more than a year. ISP is Verizon FiOS. Email addresses are @verizon.net.

Been receiving emails seemingly without issues, but...

Haven't been able to POST any outgoing emails now since (I believe) September 16th for either my main or sub accounts.

Indicator is a Norton Internet Security popup stating:

"Email Error. Your email message was unable to be sent because the connection to your email server was interrupted. Please open your email client and resend the message from the Sent Messages folder." Then the popup lists the from/to/subj.

I recompose and try to resend; same results.

I've rolled WIN7 back to September 6th thinking something got changed with the latest Windows Update, but results are the same.

I thought perhaps NIS was blocking the SMTP port, but same results when I turn off NIS and Antivirus. I don't see anything of significance in NIS's logs.

I am able to send/receive emails on these Verizon accounts using their webmail in IE or Chrome or Firefox.

Of course, Verizon's mini-app that sniffs out and corrects email problems does not know or care about Live Mail. Just Outlook and OE.

Ideas? Things to try? Thanks.

Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail.co (margaretgilder) account.

Server Error: 3204
Server: 'https://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8DE20003

This error window keeps coming up and apparently Windows Live just perpetually syncs my Calendar, I have uninstalled, reinstalled and this problem appears to affect my Hotmail account on my other devices.  It looks like I am not alone in this so why, since Microsoft appear to update everything every day, has thus glitch not been addressed yet?

Is there a way to make changes in windows live mail to background, color to make it a little easier to read?  I have 8 email accounts with all white background black text.  Not just the responses to email.

<Windows 7>

I have several Hotmail accounts.  On my business account i am unable to login.
First it told me that the email or password was incorrect, which i was quite certain it was NOT...
...so i then did a password reset using a secondary hotmail account, and the reset seemed to work, but will still not let me login to that account.
It keeps telling me that the account is temporarily locked, and just wants me to keep resetting the password.
