HI

Question is coming from a complete computer nuff nuff.

Have used WLM for many years with no problem. Have Windows 8.1

Couple of days ago went to open WLM and come up with 'Windows live mail has stopped working' Windows is checking for a solution.

Then another little window says. 'A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available' Close Program.

Can anyone here help me out.  Please explain things very simply for me.

Cheers

I have read several "so called answers" to this, but, so far, no one has been able to give an answer. I guess I am the latest to try to get MS to fix this problem.

I used to get Outlook Express and it worked great! I used it for years and, whenever I switched computers, it was on there and I just set it up and it worked fine. Whenever I read an email, I would delete, most of them, and it would get more.

About 4 years ago, I had to go and download Windows Live Mail and it has sucked! After I set it up, it starts to download my headers, and it kept downloading and downloading and downloading. A lot of them I had deleted months before. I finally stopped it at 2000 messages and decided I would delete them. I got off the internet and started clicking delete and, two hours later, I had all of them gone. I hooked back up and it started downloading ALL OF THE ONES THAT I HAD DELETED and many more. Talk about frustrating!!

I finally thought I'd have to live with it doing that. After two weeks later, I looked an it had over 30,000 email headers on their from a year and a half ago. I decided to buy a laptop and went through the process. This time, using the exact same settings as the other one, it would download the newest emails ONLY. I don't have a clue why. I bought a new computer today and, started the WLM up and it is downloading as I write this. It's been about an hour and over 12,000 message headers dating back to September of last year.

It is FRUSTRATING, Microsoft! Why don't you fix this problem? Why not answer the questions instead of putting wrong information our there?

I'm running Win 7 HP 64 bit - I have Windows Live Mail 2012 and by and large it works well. Its a good product and does a good job, better than most more recent Microsoft attempts at a mail client. However it seems to suffer from a problem with a hang when accessing Contacts, which has been reported many times but does not appear to have been resolved, as far as I can determine.

The problem is that sometimes when you go to contacts and scroll down the list and then click on a specific contact the program will hang instantly, and hang forever. There are a number of forum entries encouraging people to repair the product, uninstall/reinstall it and run the program compatibility trouble shooter. None of these "solutions" seem to work. The program compatibility trouble shooter ends (in my case) with a message saying "Windows Live Mail is incompatible" - I really don't believe this and Microsoft certainly do not say that Windows Live Mail 2012 is incompatible with Win 7 HP 64 bit anywhere.

Does anyone have any better idea as to what the cause of the problem is or know how to report it to the relevant group in Microsoft?

Windows Live Mail has been working correctly regarding the sending of emails in the past, but recently I cannot send through Windows Live Mail.  If I go to my gmail account I can send mail and it show up as sent mail in my Windows Live Mail.    The error I get is: An unknown error has occurred.

The Tasks message is:

a red  X  shows with the message:  send 5 message(s) using Gmail (garyfhuber)     with a status of Failed.

I do not know if this next part pertains to this, but when deleting mail from my Windows Live Mail an error will occur if I delete to fast.

the error message is:  The server has rejected your login.  Please verify that your user name and password are correct.  This error will not happen if I delete slowly.

I have just started using Live Mail and I have set up two accounts - as far as I can see these are identical in every way.  However, under the Inbox on one there are subfolders for drafts, sent, spam and trash; under the other this is not the case even though there are messages there.  I have found numerous posts on the web relating to this issue but nothing seems to move me forward.

If I go to "show / hide IMAP folders" the listings for the two accounts are different.

On the first account the listings under "all" and "visible" both show all folders and against each folder there is a little yellow icon.

On the second account the two listings are different - all the folders are shown under "all" but only the inbox is shown under "visible".  The yellow icon is missing too.

Is there something short of deleting the offending account that I can do to make these show?

Thanks in advance.

I am having this same problem.  I am an IT professional and have tried many of the solutions suggested in the forums:

  • I am on Windows 7 with all updates applied
  • I am using WLM 2012
  • I am using IMAP and an MSN.com email address
  • I have repaired and re-installed WLM
  • I have removed and re-added the email account
  • It is the only email account in WLM
  • I can delete emails by dragging them one-by-one to the deleted folder
  • I cannot delete emails using delete via any other method

Any advise will be greatly appreciated and save the rest of my hair... ;-)
