OT: Live Mail would not start.

Related to: Messaging Error Codes

Hi, I hope someone can help me?  I have been using Windows Live Mail as my e-mail program for the last 5 years, without any problems. Over the last few months the program tended to close down unexpectedly, without any warning, but this only happened maybe once in every 20-30 days. Otherwise it worked fine.

Yesterday, when I tried to open the program, I got the error message: Windows Live mail could not be started because msmail.dll could not be loaded.

I have re-started my computer twice, without success.  I use Windows XP, and I think the Live Mail is 2011 (can't open it to check!)

I have searched extensively on the internet, but cannot solve the problem.  I have tried to repair it by going to Control Panel/Add or Remove programs, but when I click on Windows Live Essentials, Change/Remove,  nothing happens! It does not go anywhere to give me any options.

Obviously I cannot open the program to export my e-mails and contacts.

Please help?  How can I fix this problem? (I can still get to my e-mails via the internet and my gmail account)

Thank you.

OT: windows live mail.

When I delete an e-mail it often deletes the next one also. And when I click on an e-mail to read it a whole new window pops up.

Anyone have a answer for either one? Both just started doing this recently.

I have started to notice in the past few weeks emails being received, appearing momentarily in the inbox and then disappearing. Yesterday I noticed one and telephoned the sender who said that the email was showing in his "sent" folder and he had not received any notification of a failure to arrive. He re-sent it successfully. It contained several pdf and word attachmnets. I don't know how much this is happening because I am not often watching the email inbox screen when emails come in but I have had a number of occassions when people have sworn they sent emails which I have not seen.

I no longer can receive email into my hotmail account either through windows live or directly from the hotmail login page. It seems that I can send from that account, but not receive.

Here's what I've already done:  created a new hotmail account with same address and it copied all my subfolders and the messages within those folders but can't receive messages from that account either.  I've also deleted windows essentials and downloaded it again from microsoft website.  still can't receive.

I also can't receive from this account on my cell phone. the phone is synced to my hotmail account.

i have another email account (att.net) on windows live that is fully functional.

i have rec'd great help on this forum in the past and look forward to hearing some suggestion to cure this ill.

thank you,  eacepay

I have sorted emails that I want to save into folders on the Windows Mail App and am wanting to save only the emails in those folders to my HDD or a USB drive. I've read a couple of posts that say to hit Alt+F and select export but nothing comes up when using the app. I think I'm running Windows 8 or 8.1. I'd really like to avoid having to sort through thousands of emails again so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
With Windows Live Mail, is there any way of adding a sound when an email is being sent?  My wife (on her Mac) has a very satisfying swishing sound confirming that an email has been sent.

I am running windows live mail on windows 8.1. I have 2 email accounts set up on windows live mail. 1 account is a Comcast.net and the other account  is an AT&T.net. I can send and receive emails on the Comcast account, but can only receive on the AT&T account. Both accounts are POP3 protocol. I contacted AT&T and they checked all my settings and said they are correct. I have tried it both with authentication checked and unchecked. It will not send either way. When I check authentication it asks me to verify my user name and password. When I do that it just keeps asking over and over until I closed the pop up window. Then it tells me  the email can't be sent. When I uncheck the authentication box it tells me the email can't be send because it requires authentication.
