I am trying to transfer my contacts to a new pc. I have backed up the list as a csv file but when I import them into the new pc only about 125 contacts out of 675 appear. I have tried this 3 times and it is always the same. Why won't it import all of the details please?
Hi,
I am using a Talk Talk account in Windows Live Mail, on Windows 7.
The problem is, when I send an email using Windows Live Mail, the email does not appear in the IMAP "Sent" folder. Similarly, when I delete an email using Windows Live Mail, it does not appear in the IMAP "Trash" folder. It turns out they are only being stored in Local Storage folders, and not on the IMAP server.
I know my emails are being received, so that is not a problem.
To be clear, let me explain that I can see the "Sent" and "Trash" folders in Windows Live Mail, and they contain all the emails that I have sent/deleted previously using WebMail. So, as far as being able to see the emails that already exist in those folders, that is fine.
My settings are as follows:
Include this account when receiving mail or synchronising: Yes
Incoming mail: mail.talktalk.net
Incoming mail port: 143
Outgoing mail: smtp.talktalk.net
Outgoing mail port: 587
IMAP Folders
Root folder path: blank
Check for new messages in all folders: Yes
Store special folders on IMAP server: Yes
Sent Items path: Sent
Drafts path: Drafts
Deleted Items path: Trash
Junk path: Spam
None of my IMAP folders are hidden, I can see them all. All the folders (Sent, Trash etc) branch off the Inbox, which I understand is correct.
I know how it should work. I should be able to send an email from Windows Live Mail and it should appear in my Sent folder. I should then be able to log into WebMail (or any other device for that matter) and see the email in the Sent folder in there too. But it doesn't happen. I know it's not necessarily instant, but it should all eventually sync up nicely - that's the point of IMAP isn't it?
I have confirmed in the TalkTalk Community that my settings are correct. It was suggested that this is a Live Mail config error, and that I should get help here.
This was my post in the TalkTalk forum:

Looking forward to a reply.
Thanks,
Matt
I have a Hotmail email address and I'm using Windows Live Mail(12) under Windows 7. When replying to an email received in Windows Live Mail the "to:" box has the recipients email address and to the right of this there is a "From" field with the email address I've set up as a "reply address"(not my hotmail address).
However when I respond to an email the return address always shows the hotmail address and not the email I've entered as the "reply to" address. I've tried Options, email Accounts, My email(default account), Properties, and set the Reply Address to the email account I wish to use as the reply to email. As noted above, this email name shows up in the "From" field when I respond to an email, but isn't there when the email response is received.
I tried to install MS Live mail on a win 8.1 desktop today for a friend.
they a have a Gmail email account.
when asked to enter the persons email address it took the gmail address and continued.
when ever we try to check the email the program always asks for the username address and Password for the Gmail account. and does not accept what we put in.
when we check the google email by loging into gmail through a browser it works. so we know the account is working and we know the password.
Are we supposed to put smtp, pop3, imap or somthing else in front of the gmail address?
What are we doing wrong?
Kevin

Hi Ron,
I see, this is an old post, but the problem still persists for me (and most probably for others, too). When I read a mail in the unread mails folder, it is not moved to the inbox folder afterwards, but disappears to nirvana (searched everywhere). This is particularly annoying when it happens to important mails (imagine this happens e.g. to an invitation for a job interview). It does not happen for every mail, but for some. I could not figure out when or for which mails exactly, because mails that are gone finally are hard to examine ... I checked all settings, in particular display filters, etc., but there is nothing that could explain this behavior.
In my eyes, this is a BUG. And it's a major one since mails disappear which should NEVER happen in an email client.
Have you found a solution in the meantime?
Thanks, Jochen
P.S.: I'm using Windows Live Mail Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3528.0331) on Windows 7 64bit
P.P.S: There is a similar post here, but with no solution either.
I have read all the other threads about this and nothing seems to apply or fix my problem.
I tried to upgrade to Windows live mail 2012 on my Windows7 (32bit) computer but discovered that my system didn't meet the minimum requirements. (Athlon CPU) Unfortunately I had already uninstalled WLM 2011 so I reinstalled it but now it would run for 10-15 seconds and then I would get the message Windows Live Mail has stopped working with a prompt to debug or close program. In either case I would have to eventually select close program
After trying repairs and re-installations, I finally reinstalled Windows and have installed WLM again and am still having the same problem. After reading some of the solutions, I discovered that it would run long enough to make it to the spell checker options and set English as the default but no effect. I set IE10 as the default browser and no change. I created a second profile and WLM stops working in that profile also. I tried scanning my system files (sfc /scannow) but that didn't find any problems,
It always runs just long enough to make me think it is working. I have been able to import an email profile, and on subsequent starts of WLM 2011 I can see that it is downloading emails, I just don't have time to read them.
After reinstalling Windows 7, I continued installing all the updates until there were no more before I installed WLM 2011 with the only other thing I installed being Norton 360. I have tried doing repairs, re-installations, disabling my antivirus and firewall when doing it. This is crazy. I am at a loss
