Windows Live Mail FAQ
Since I upgraded to my desktop PC to windows 8.1 from windows 8, I am finding my email system (Hotmail) does not sync with my other devices which include 2 apple ipads and a laptop which uses windows Vista. Before I upgraded there was no problem, all synced fine.
Also even when I am using the desktop, I find that despite it being set to download messages as they arrive, this is not happening, and sometimes it takes hours, whereas on my other devices it is immediate

I am trying to assist my mom. She is running WLM as an email client on her desktop PC. Her ISP is AT & T, and her only email account has a Bellsouth.net address. She readily accesses her email from a Kindle device, an Android phone (Verizon is her carrier) and her Web based AT & T mail page. She is suddenly experiencing an empty Inbox on her WLM email client-- every email appears in her Deleted Items folder. I have sent her Test emails asking her to sign-out of her AT & T web mail account, and to turn her Kindle and Android OFF. When she opens WLM, my Test Message resides in her Deleted Items folder. If she subsequently signs-on to her AT & T web mail, the Test message is in her Inbox; if she turns on her Kindle and Android, the Test Message appears in the Inbox of each respective device. I have asked her to check for "rules" in WLM for filtering messages (there are no rules set-up). Any advice would be appreciated as far as what settings need to be configured or examined in WLM, AT & T webmail, or on her Android or Kindle.

I know it's been three years that you answered this question, but it only happened to me a couple of weeks ago.
Even before I found your post I had done everything you described and I still can't send messages through Live Mail.
My accounts were set as POP and were working fine. All of a sudden, I couldn't send or receive any message. After calling my ISP, they informed that they were offering the access through IMAP for some time now. That was weird because my e-mail client was working fine the day before.
After several attempts on the account settings, I finally deleted one of my accounts and re-created it as a IMAP type. Now I can receive messages but I still can't send them. I verified the settings on my Avast firewall and all the ports were allowed as well as on Windows Firewall.
I also used the repair tool from Windows on the Windows Essentials, but it solved nothing.
The same thing happened to my Outlook (2010) accounts, with the added problem that when I deleted one of the accounts, I couldn't add it again because of the impossibility of sending messages.
On the Outlook I also have a Gmail account configured and it works fine.
The error message I get on Live Mail is:
Secure(SSL): No
...which is about the same as the one from Outlook. I also tried secure SSL and set the encryption to TSL - as it appears on the Gmail settings, but nothing works.

I updated from WLEssentials 2011 to 2012 with no effect whatsoever. I'm able to access email on the web and am told by my ISP that their server cannot be at fault. Have used WLM successfully for at least four years. This ISP is new to us, and WLM really hasn't worked properly since we've been connected with it. Any ideas to help fix this?

when typing an email in live mail, the curser continues to the right and will not shift down to the next line. It used to work

Windows 7 using windows live mail. Keep getting lines of interferance across parts of screen in new message. anyone had this problem. I have reinstalled windows and still get the problem.
