I have updated to win 10 and after that I am getting this message in Windows Live account.

Unable to send or receive messages for the *** Email address is removed for privacy *** account.
Server Error: 0x800488A6

My two other emailaccounts worked fine using Windows Live Mail after the update to Windows 10

I will be happy to assist you in resolving your issue with regard to being unable to open email messages in Windows Live Mail.

It is possible that Mail.MsMessageStore file was corrupted. Please follow the steps below on how to repair the file:

1. Restart the computer (this is to ensure that Live Mail is fully shut down, and that none of it's components are in use when the computer starts)

2. Click Start, type CMD but do not press enter

3. You will see cmd.exe in the search results, right click on it and select Run as Administrator - type your admin password if asked, and if UAC pops up asking permission, allow it

4. You should now see the command prompt, with the following displayed:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:Windowssystem32>

5. Copy the following (press Ctrl+C):

esentutl.exe -d "%userprofile%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Live MailMail.MSMessageStore"

Note: the "" are necessary

6. Right click in the command prompt Window, and select Paste, so you now see the following:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:Windowssystem32>esentutl.exe -d "%userprofile%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Live MailMail.MSMessageStore"

7. Press enter. esentutl will now defragment the Live Mail database file

8. Once done, you can close the command prompt, and restart the PC again

I had the same problem and after inserting  the above command the Windows Live Mail doesnt want to open.

Please can you help?

I have kept my WLM store folder in an encrypted folder on my D:drive for years. The trouble is, if I forget to open my encrypted folder before I open WLM, WLM reverts to using the store folder at C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Live Mail.

This is extremely annoying because it means I first have to import folders , THEN I have to manually drag those imported folders to Storage Folders in WLM so all stored folders appear in an A-Z order - because ridiculously, you cannot move folders any other way!!!!

So is there any way at all of preventing WLM reverting to the store folder at C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Live Mail and making it use MY store folder permanently? Even when MY store folder is not accessible because I have opened it in my encryption program? If not, there should be! Or there should at least be an easier way of getting my WLM client back to normal, complete with all my stored emails, after I merely forget to open my encrypted folder!!!!

Please help: I need to back up my email messages from my pc to a usb drive . I use Windows Live Mail on a Windows 8.1 laptop. My pc is having serious problems and I need to ship it to the manufacturer and everything will be wiped out from my hard drive. I have backed up all my documents, of course, but need to back up my email messages (which have been downloaded to my hard drive) and my contacts. I have tried the steps outlined on MS community, but it doesn't work. Probably works great for Windows 7, but not for Windows 8.1. I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 yet because I'm having so many problems already and I didn't want to confuse the issues my computer is having (apparently it needs a new processor, and motherboard has already been replaced). Can anyone help me? Thanks!
How can I set my Window Live to view my mail in plain text? Windows 10...
