I have discovered my carefully stored 15 years worth of emails now has little connection between subject title and content. The emails cover some important subjects like my mortgage, shares, insurance, and other legal documents extended guarantees etc.
The emails are mostly from various POP3 accounts I have had over the years and more recently, live mail.
Of course I have backups which I have not attempted to restore yet, but they were also done using microsoft products.
The symptom is many titles all with the same content. I could probably tie the occurrence in with changing from 8.1 to 10 which didn't work very well. After the most recent use of the windows repair tool and reloading my emails from back-up the emails I checked looked OK but now they are not (again).
So how do I recover this situation?
Any suggestions for other software that will read in my backups from outlook express etc?
I am very nervous about continuing to use WLM on Windows 10. I was not happy with the mess I ended up in trying to switch to the Windows 10 Mail app (when I did the free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10) -- and so went back to using WLM which seemed to survive the upgrade to Windows 10 nicely.
However, I also have a new Christmas present Laptop for my wife that is currently sitting in a corner because and I am seeing a lot of problems/conversations with installing and running WLM on Windows 10. Additionally, there is a Microsoft note being passed around (I have seen it quoted many places) that essentially says Microsoft is going to be making some changes to Windows 10 that will fix it so that WLM will no longer work on Windows 10 and suggest that all WLM users move to the new Windows 10 Mail app.
I can probably handle the changes that need to be made, but my wife probably can't - in particular, the likely loss of all of the WLM folders she has set up over the last 4 years of running in Windows 7.
I have a TWC provider which has been performing pretty good for the last 4 years with WLM configured as a POP3 client (but the performance is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL when I access the TWC mail as Webmail via a browser, if I were wanting to go that route). I THINK I now understand that if I want to have folders with the new Windows 10 Mail app, that it would have to be configured as an IMAP interface (is that right). And if I do go to the new Windows 10 Mail app, I don't see any migration instructions to save our old WLM folders. So would I still have access to these folders, either through the new Windows 10 Mail app or via an off-line WLM client.
I will have to confess that I do not understand all of the Microsoft mail offering (Office Outlook, Outlook.com, Outlook Express, Mail, WLM, Windows 10 Mail app) -- so help further clarification here would help.
I prefer keeping everything in the Microsoft camp, just for compatibility reasons and I am pretty familiar with their products and the Community support. So should I gut it out and stick with the Microsoft products (like which one) or should I consider some of the 3rd party clients, many of which have pretty good reviews. My problems here is that I don't want to have to be switching clients every year or so or be faced with losing all of my email history (or should I be looking at a psychological adjustment to get over thinking I need to keep email around for 5+ years - like have a way with dealing with that -- like have a way to store only the absolute vital email).
So comments and help would be appreciated. I would like a lasting solution, if possibly. Thanks.

MICROSOFT...PLEASE LISTEN!
WLM on W10 with KB 3093594 is a mess! Please do not cutover to your new server (away from DeltaSync) until you stabilize WLM on W10 with a working update for your new server!
I have run a gamut of issues since installing the KB 3093594 patch (had none before), so today I uninstalled Windows Essentials 2012 and downloaded and re-installed it to Build 16.4.3528.0331. I have checked Windows Update and my system and all programs updated by Windows Update are UP-TO-DATE!
I do not use any 3rd party browsers or email clients!
I would appreciate a response from Microsoft that is more than "we need more info" or "try this or try that".
A real look is required at the plethora of issues resulting from your email telling users to install KB 3093594 or lose their mail. That look at the issues needs to result in a definitive statement and action to resolve these issue (and with an update, not a patch)!
At the end of every year, I have created new folder such as (this year) Inbox 2015 and Sent 2015 and moved the contents of the Inbox and Sent folders to the new ones. This year I can only move a few emails at a time without getting an "Unknown Error" message.
What can I do?
Thanks.
I have 3 hotmail accounts on windows live mail. One works, two do not. I checked spelling, etc. This is the message I get for each of the two :
Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail (clean-it) account.
Server Error: 3204
Server: 'https://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8DE20003
I have windows 10.
Hi, when I go to update windows live essentials it always gives up saying there is no internet connection (when there is). I looked at the other message on the forum but had no idea what to type into the address box under automatic configuration script. I am using windows 10. Also when I try to update in settings/update&security it always fails but never gives me a reason.
PS I have put this under movie maker only because it relates to the other one I posted about mp4s. Mohammed said I needed to update essentials and it should work fine.
Thanks,
Ed
