Recently I received two emails; one from 'Outlook' and one from 'Microsoft Mail Server', both essentially telling me that the Windows Live Mail service I use (with a @hotmail.com address) will be closed unless I install an update.
A copy of one of the emails is below.
What I want to know is whether this is a legitimate message from Microsoft or whether it is a hoax of some sort.
can anyone enlighten me? Has anyone else received this message and gone ahead with the update? If so did it work ok?
thanks
G/.
Dear user,
In a few weeks, we will be making some changes to our email services that might impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live or @msn email account. These changes will prevent your email from being delivered to the Windows Live Mail 2012 application that you use.
In order to continue using Windows Live Mail 2012 to send and receive email for your account, you need to install the latest update published here.
If you use Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, we recommend that you switch to the built-in Mail app in Windows to stay connected and get the latest feature updates on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
Windows Live Essentials 2009 and 2011 are not supported any more, and you will need to update to Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 and use the Mail app, or use www.outlook.com. To learn more about the Mail app, please click here.
We also recommend all Windows Live Mail users on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 to upgrade to Windows 10 and use the built-in Mail application to stay connected and get the latest feature updates.
We suggest saving this email so you can refer to it later.
Thank you for your understanding and continued use.
Yours sincerely, The Outlook team

[Original title: Windows Live Mail]
Every email I receive displays the band at the top showing 'Unknown sender' with the options to either 'Delete and block' or to 'Allow sender'. This is despite all the senders being listed in my 'Contacts' file. Each time I select to 'Allow sender' but the next email from the same sender again shows 'Unknown sender'
I am using Windows Live Mail 2012 and have recently, finally, managed to update it to the latest build version. Has anyone any ideas as to what is going wrong this time?
Hi,
I have by mistake put my wrong Username into my private medical online account. The account is to make appointments with my doctor or order my repeat prescriptions. I cannot now access the account because it has one letter missing from my User name. This goes in automatically. I have tried changed it without success because it just reverts back to my incorrect User Name. This pops up from below as I am typing it. I have no idea how to change this as whatever I put in (the correct User Name!!) it just changes it for me. Please help. This is very serious as I cannot access my account to get my repeat medications.
Thanks,
Carole Denby
