can’t access hotmail via chrom or IE–page insists I install Silverlight. I don’t want it. How do I go directly to Hotmail?

As of September 6 I could not access my Hotmail account. A pop-up  appeared requesting that I install Silverlight.  I don't want it and can't get it off the page.  What to do?
