Original thread : windows media player is not working in windows 8.1

I had the same problem with a laptop I bought yesterday.  Audio would play for mpg file but no video.  MS Helpdesk fixed the problem in about 15 minutes.  The tech downloaded  K-lite-codec pack -1035-full and the files now play as they should.

This did the trick. Just Google K-lite-codec pack, download, and install. It solved every problem I was having with WMP in 8.1.

I have the same problem. after intalling k-lite-codec pack, I can now play it on windows media player but it still does not work on windows movie maker.

Please help.
