I cannot empty 141 junk emails.  Outlook cannot process my request.  Referred to check status and Outlook operating normally.  So, I end up here. And to Jen, although another post where the person could not open attachments and told to update browser, same problem I had and I had updated to IE 8.  Still have XP so no IE 9.
