I am trying to capture video from a Canon HV20 camcorder using Firewire on Windows 8.

Windows Movie maker sees the camera, rewinds and then gives the message "The video device is currently in use".

I have tried rebooting, unplugging and re-plugging in the camera, using a different driver, and all other suggestions here.

The capture will also not work in any other programs.   It seems like something else is holding the video capture device.

All of the other threads here with this topic seem to have no answers.

Thanks
