I have several really big problems with the outlook.com app for Android. The first is that the app is really slow. Moving through emails takes seconds, and sometimes the app stops responding completley. (Where android intervenes and asks me if I would
like to force stop the app) The old Hotmail app does not do this. (However, I like outlook.com, and I welcomed the change, except when I used the app). Also, any other apps that I have used for email do not do this at all, even when I was on Jelly Bean 4.2.2
Another problem with the app is that it does not sync. I know this is a problem with the app, as I have HSPA/3G connections, all other apps can connect to the internet, and I can ping outlook.com with a low latency (a low amount of time). At the top it
says: Last connected: (date + time)
I have quit the app with the home and back buttons but this does not work. The only way that I can get it to start syncing again is for me to go into app info and force stop the app.
I have tried to solve these problems by clearing the app cache, the app data, and then reinstalling, but this does not work. It is still really slow.
Another problem, and this is the most annoying is that outlook randomly signs me out. That means that if I close outlook to go to my web browser, suddenly notifications stop. I go back to outlook, and it asks me to sign in again, I have to then set up
my account and then use more (thankfully for me, unlimited) data. Also, I have to set up all of my settings, and suddenly, I have run out of storage space? Why, you may ask? Well, Outlook.com has taken up most of it! This is because it has simply signed me
out, but has not deleted my old email on the device (not on the server, thank goodness!) By the way, I have only synced a month of email, and I know how big that is. The amount of space that it uses is simply massively over the top! This is because has simply
signed me out, but has not deleted my old email! This means that it has several copies of my emails, Most of which do not even exist!
As an Android Developer myself, I know my way around android, and I can provide logcats (Logs) of anything, and even though I have a single core device, no other apps have these problems.
I am rooted, and I am running a Gingerbread Stock ROM (Made by the manufacturer), but these problems happen on any ROM that I am on (CyanogenMod 7, 9, 10, 10.1, and 10.2 and they all have these problems!) I know it is the apps fault, and I know it is not
my internet or data connection, as the speedtest.net app tells me otherwise.
Here are some device stats:
Huawei Ascend G300
1GHz Single Core
512MB RAM
480*800 Screen
32GB SD Card. The app is stored on the SD card.
Can anyone help me solve this problem? or alternatively, an email app that works on Gingerbread, and uses IMAP or Push (I can't use POP3 as it deletes the mail from the server)
Thanks
George :)
