I have an HP Pavilion lap top and have had a 22" ViewSonic Monitor previously hooked up to it , as an additional bigger screen.

Recently I moved and had not hooked the monitor to the computer until now.

When attempting to switch over from laptop to the monitor (on any format - duplicate screen, extension or any of the other modes offered) the monitor receives the command and you can barely see the images on it cause it doesn't brighten up.

The monitor doesn't have any adjustable features for brightness or anything else except for a volume control which doesn't play a role for the purposes that it will be used. This combination was working just fine in the past but now I can't get it to work... 

Searching for any helpful suggestions ;-(
