I have been using OE and WLM since 1998. I like these handy apps very much, but since 20 years ago, I wonder why Microsoft does not add a few simple features to its software. I did not find any way for requesting those features from Microsoft. Please tell me your ideas about these feature requests:
1- Optional Attachment Download: When reading emails in WLM, we cannot read the text body without downloading the full attachment. This takes a lot of time and internet traffic for downloading the attachments that are not even required to download. The email client must not force us to download big files for reading simple texts. Many people prefer to use their online mailbox via Firefox instead of using WLM, just for this reason.
2- Resume: If we are downloading an email with a big attachment, it does not support "Resume" in case of internet disconnection.
3- Multi-Session: When opening emails with IMAP account, we cannot open two emails simultaneously. For example, we click on a message with a big attachment. At the same time, we want to open another email without attachment. We cannot open the small message before waiting long for the big message to finish its download.
4- Tabbed Navigation: We cannot open email messages in new tabs instead of new windows. Sometimes we get confused if we open lots of email mesages.
5- Spam Blocking: Although WLM seems to have spam blocking feature, it never works effectively. I right-click on a message and I mark it as junk, but it still remains in my Inbox. If I increase my safety level, it starts blocking the emails of my friends and family. It does not have any feature for blocking the black-list only.
6- Restore: When we open a folder in WLM, it does not go to the last email we were already reading. This feature was contrived in WLM 2009, but it was removed in WLM 2012. It's a pity.
7- Syncrhonization: We cannot synchronize our contacts, sent items sygnatures, settings, accounts list, etc. in several computers. We can sync IMAP folders of course, but not contacts list at all.
8- Export settings: Of course we are able to export contacts in WLM, but we are not able to export our settings, contact groups, messages, etc.
9- Automatic Port Find: Thunderbird can find the numbers of our incoming and outgoing email port numbers automatically, but WLM cannot.
10- Email Sending Progress: OE used to show us email sending progress when we sent an email, but WLM does not show the progressbar automatically unless we click on "Send/Receive" twice. A blind person like me, who uses JAWS screen reader, cannot find out whether or not their emails are being sent, when they send an email.
11- Include Signature When Sending with Right-Click: Whenever we try to send a file to someone by right-clicking the file and selecting "Send To> Mail Recipient", it does not include our signature in the email.
12- Automatic Gmail Settings: When someone enters their Gmail username/password in WLM, it must not ask their incoming mail address, outgoing mail address, port numbers, etc. It must adjust everything automatically.
Day 5. I get a pop up notice that Windows Live Transcoder has Stopped Working when i upload a ppt with animation /converted to a wmv video file to Windows live Movie maker. I can upload single jpeg images withy no problem. The pop up says that windows is now closing the program and will notify me if a solution is available.. Looking at the threads that have the same problem that started 2013, i very much doubt a solution is available??
Microsoft.. please add LIVE support, the virtual agent is a dud. Any one out there that can guide me?

I have been using Outlook Express (OE) since 1998. It was OE5 in Win98. Then, I switched to OE6 in WinXP, Windows Mail (WM) in Windows Vista, Windows Live Mail (WLM) versions 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012 in later versions of Windows, but all versions have an obvious bug. I wonder why Microsoft has never noticed this. I searched the web, but I found no topic or no other user who asks the same question. The bug or problem is as follows:
If my file-name is non-English, for example if my file name is in Persian language (unicode characters), I cannot attach it to my email via right-click. Even if my file address contains non-ansi characters, although the file name is English, it never attaches the file via right-click. I can attach the file via Insert> File Attachment, but this is very inconvenient. I like to attach my file via r-click. When I right-click a file with Farsi name and I click "Send To> Mail Recipient", no window opens up and no email is sent at all.
Is there any solution, hot-fix or workaround for this serious failing?
I have been changing version after version with the hope that microsoft might solve this most obvious problem, but no luck. Not only microsoft didn't solve the problem, but also new bugs and issues took place in the newer versions.
Hello, I have Windows movie maker version 2012. I am unable to adjust output audio bitrate. Due to this, movie maker by default adjusts the bitrate to 118 kbps, resulting in poor voice quality. I would like to have solution to this problem. I am unaware of any new version of movie maker. Answerers can suggest.

Have spent 2 days browsing and trying solutions: no joy.
Issue is that in order to gain disk space on PC I forgetfully moved the WLM Storage Folder (7.5GB) onto an external HDD - but am not sure I allowed enough time for everything to settle down / housekeeping etc. On opening WLM to check email etc, all the storage folders had (understandably?) disappeared and the various linked accounts began downloading all the messages sitting on their servers into the relevant Inboxes etc.
1. Attempted to recover matters by simply putting the Storage folder back where it was previously - no joy.
2. Tried exporting/importing - no joy.
3. Have now recovered some of the relevant folders by looking deep into folder structure but not the most recent versions. In any case, when try and look in the folders that are recoverable simply get "0messages / 0 unread" ie no messages sitting within them.
How can I recover the storage folders as at the version of 2 days ago before I made the original error; and how can I ensure the messages are in each folder as they used to be?

I have Windows Live 2011 but cannot receive e mails does anyone know how to sort this out?
I do receive e mails to my tablet but cannot access any historical ones on it and I need to trace some.
The last e mails to my lap top are dated 4/2016.

My old computer died and I have a new one with Windows 10. I see that Windows Live Mail is no longer supported and cannot even be downloaded.
I have recovered my Windows Live Mail "storage folder" files from the AppData directory of the old computer, but never did the "export" action with them. Will I be able to import these folders into Outlook? If yes, where are the steps for doing this?

Hello Chet,
For better assistance, we'd like to ask the following:
- When did you start experiencing this issue?
- Since you are getting an error message when you are opening your Windows Live Mail, we'd like to request a screenshot of the entire error message. You may use Snipping Tool for sending a screen capture. To learn how, click here.
- Did you make any changes in your Windows Live Mail prior to this issue? If yes, kindly prove more information.
We are looking forward to your reply.
Regards.
Hello Ernie San
I am having the same problem reported by Chet. Each time I open Windows Live Mail, new emails are downloaded and displayed without problems, but then a window is displayed with an error message saying that "there was an error when attempting to connect to the Mail Calendar service."
In answer to your points above:-
*The problems first appeared a few weeks ago. I never used the Calendar Service, and do not need to use it.
* I am attaching a screen grab of the error message window
* I do not recollect having made any changes to Windows Live mail prior to this issue.
I would be extremely grateful if you offer me a remedy for this frustrating issue.
Many thanks
Joseph F Micallef
