We have hosted Exchange email and find that Outlook 2011 (for Mac) has numerous synchronization issues including;

1. Multiple copies of a single email/contact all with the same details (date/time stamp) -- have seen 2-6 copies

-Took a 6GB email account to close to 20GB

2. Hundreds of Email read and filed into folders never synchronized with Exchange

-Evidenced in OWA, a Windows computer with Outlook, and a new identity created in Outlook 2011

3. Old meeting requests/remidners intermittently pop-up

4. Recurring pin wheel and delayed email

5. Sync errors (Outlook 2011)

Any real fix or solution?

Web search suggests that Apple points to Microsoft and Microsoft seems to point to Apple.  Meanwhile, some company employees have set aside thier Mac rather than dealing with the headaches. (Score for Windows)

Scouring the web, we've implemented some best practices found here http://www.valiant-ny.com/2012/10/outlook-2011-for-mac-and-exchange-sync-issues/

We've implemented Best Practices Such As:

 Keep account under 3GB
 Keep Inbox and Sent folders under 4000 items
 Utilize folders and place under main account – not Inbox
 Perform major email moves on Outlook Web Access (web mail) Perform major email moves one process at a time allowing synchronization time
 Archive using Outlook for Windows and import into Outlook for Mac
 Keep archive files limited to 2GB maximum
 Set Outlook to download headers only unless offline access is needed
 Exit Outlook cleanly versus minimizing and allowing the computer to sleep/hibernate

Thanks

Is it possible to synchronize only a subset of my extensive contact database with a smartphone (apple/droid) or iPad?  Over 3,000 contacts  but not all are required on mobile devices.

Currently using hosted Outlook Exchange and connecting to several devices with Outlook for Mac or mac email programs.

Cheers

Hello Everyone,

I'm Vlad Florestal and I work for a small IT company and the city and we have a client of ours in which we are upgrading their Mac computers for. I was wondering if there was a way to perhaps backup and restore their categories. What steps would I go about to achieve this?

Thanks!

Best,

Vlad

Having a huge issue with Outlook 2011. I am unable to receive new e-mail messages but e-mail messages that deemed as being classified as Junk are being recieved. I've recreated the Outlook account over and over and reinstalled the software to no avail. The only way I can receive new messages is by rebuilding the cache. I am running the latest version of Outlook: 14.4.2. Has anyone encountered this issue?

Hi -

My wife is in kind of a pickle with her 12 years of Outlook folders, emails and files synced with Exchange.  The database file for her Outlook identity is approaching nearly 40GB of space and really causing a ton of issues.  Have had to rebuild, create new identity and loads Outlook incredibly slow.

What I'm looking for is a suggestion of how to move some of these files to the cloud (storage - still searchable, accessible and usable) and out of her locally based identity folder.  Any thoughts?

What we have done:

  • Locally based files.  This doesn't take any stress off the computer.
  • Drag and Drop to Gmail.  We're talking about tons of folders here and it times out if the folder is too large.
  • Leave them as they are.  Yup - this is how we are now.

Most of these folders and files are clients from 4+ years ago that she legally needs to keep for reference and if they want to buy or sell again (she's in real estate) she wants to revisit the emails.

I keep coming back to the way that my iPad/iPhone work.  You can search particular folders and files but they are NOT stored on your phone/tablet unless you download them.  Is there a way to keep a "shadow folder" in Outlook where the folder content isn't locally stored but still searchable/accessible?

Thanks for your help!

I keep getting Error Code 1026: "Specified string literal size exceeds maximum supported string literal size."  Using Outlook 2011 on my iMac.  How do I get it to stop?  Thank you.

Hello,

I backed up the Document folder on a Macbook Air because I want to restore the Outlook for Mac data on a new install of Maverick.  I have updated the Office for Mac 2011 on the new installation and its all up to date.  I then created a new profile to set up the Office for Mac and copy and paste the Office 2011 Identities folder.  Upon open the Office, I got a prompt to rebuild the database which I did and in the end the program open up.  I see all the end users' Local On My Computer folders.  She has hundreds of the local folders but NO EMAILs.  Basically the backup I made has 15 gig of data so I know the emails are there.

I have also try to re-create a new profile, copies all the folders under Data Records, rebuild the database and none work.  I am getting stress out because she has over 15 gigs of emails and I know I have backed them up but they are not showing up.  All the folders/subfolders under My Computers are there.

Please help.

Thanks,

Helen

Outlook 2011 14.4.1

In the middle of sending an email Outlook crashed.

On re-open it will not allow any action but a Database rebuild.

The rebuilt database has 6 weeks email missing.

Changing back to Back-up Database forces the rebuild selection only.

Another rebuild from the original database has the exact same result - 6 weeks email missing again with the exact same email list. That is all the emails that are lost are lost again to the very last one.

Thus, the problem can be replicated exactly.

Anyone technical will tell you , that if you can't replicate the problem it does not exist. Well, the problem does replicate perfectly and thus can safely assume this is a Microsoft Code problem that needs to be fixed! Now Please Sirs.

This is a business computer so 6 weeks missing email is not an issue its a major f disaster that will result in financial loss!

Please help !

One wired thing I have discovered may help someone identify the bug.

When I try open the original Database Backup, that forces a Cancel or Rebuild. The 'highlighted blue email" in Outlook I can see in background (with many emails below and above) happens to be the first email in the rebuilt database.

All email that was above it in the original database is lost. No such thing as a coincidence right?

Even more puzzling.

Created an entire new profile on Mac called Temp User.

Set up Outlook under new profile Temp User.

Fetched email stored on POP servers as far back as I can (4 weeks) (latest default Outlook will allow - bug!)

Exported 640 emails (184 meg) to OLM file.

Close Temp User profile and open old Profile

Import Lost Mail OLM to old Profile Successful

Lost Email folder import will not display emails ???

+++ Add Note

The magic date is 19 April. Anything before this date will not display mail in Inbox nor Sent, nor now in the Imported

How do I DRAG an attachment into an Outlook email. I know how to attach...I want to drag into the email window, like Entourage.
