HELP?!?!?
I've seen some similar posts but I have not found a solution to my issue yet.
I log into outlook.com using a hotmail account (which I've owned for almost 15 years), which was also used for Messenger (and now for Skype). and I haven't had any issues at whatsoever.
Until recently. A few days ago I noticed that all my Messenger contacts in Skype were shown as Offline, eventhough I confirmed that most of them were actually online. When I ask them to verify, they told me that they see ME as offline (and obviously I wasn't). And noticed that the problem occurred in multiple PCs (work and home),, on iphone, ipad... so clerly the problem was not client application related but account related.
I contacted Sype support but to be honest they were absolutely of no help. So, I had to keep "researching" about the issue... as I was performing several tests, came to realize that in Outlook.com ALL MY CONTACTS WERE GONE.
If I go to the People page, it says I have NO contacts.
If I try to recover deleted contacts, I received a message saying that I have no contacts.
Checked for virus or malicious sofware... I'm clean.
Just to make sure, I did try several browsers and PCs and even from iPad... only to confirm that it made no diference.
I've browsed throgh this community and tried several different suggestions... none of them has helped. My contacts seeem to have just vanished.
Could my account being hacked? As I mentioned my account has been active for many years and I cannot afford to lose my contacts. How can I recover them? How can I get someone from Microsoft support to recover them for me?
HELP will be greatly appreciated.
I go through the menu, request a code to be sent to the alternative address I have provided, insert as requested BUT it just gets rejected. This has now happened 10-12 times and as one previous contributor remarked on a similar issue, I have now run out of 'skips' and days!
When I go back into the my Account which needs the code, I see that instead of confirming that the code has been sent to the alternative email address I've provided (another Hotmail account), it says it's been sent to the mobile number I originally included but this number is no longer current...... I wanted the code to be sent ONLY to the alternative email address, not the phone number...
Is this stuff going to happen on all my Hotmail accounts eventually??
Please let me know what I need to do to try and retrieve the Account - I am UK based
1. Enter your Microsoft account that you're trying to recover and type in the characters you'll see in the pictures
2. Hit Next.
3. Click "I can’t use any of these options".
4. Enter your Microsoft account you are trying to get back into
5. Enter a working alternate email address to where we can contact you.
6. Click “Next”.
7. Fill-out the form as accurate as you can and click “Submit”."
I filled out the form and submitted it, but got an automated reply 1 hour later telling me the following:
"Your Microsoft account [defunct account] was created using an email address from a provider other than Microsoft. To reset your password for this account, follow these steps:
- Click Here for the Microsoft account password reset page.
- Select an option and click "Reset your password".
- Enter your Microsoft Account, then enter the security characters, lastly click "Next".
- On the following page, select "Email me a reset link" and then click "Next".
- A reset link is now sent to your email address.
Should you require further assistance, please visit the Microsoft account Support Pages.
The account recovery request with issue number [issue number] has been closed."
Unfortunately, these steps only allow for you to reset your password to a CURRENTLY ACTIVE email account tied to your Xbox Live account, which I DO NOT have, hence me filling out that form in the first place. Exactly what steps do I need to take to retrieve my Xbox Live account beyond the steps that have been provided, since the processes above do not seem to work?
