When trying to get email, the server will not connect. I've tried my local provider, but they couldn't help. Microsoft doesn't support Windows Live Mail anymore and suggested using Microsoft Community. I'm using Windows 7 and was able to connect on Monday, March 27, 2017, but on Wednesday it would not connect to my internet provider's server. My internet provider tried some ideas, but nothing helped. I called Microsoft, but Windows Live isn't supported anymore. If anyone has any other ideas, I would appreciate them.

I use the following connections: server out = 25, server in = 110, server = maileast.citlink.net, smtp = smtp.citlink.net

I have Windows Live Mail, using Windows 7 professional.  I have about a dozen groups of contacts, and although all of my 540 contacts are still in WLM, the totals for the 'groups' has lost most of them. Where did they go and how do I get them back. Thanks.

Split from this thread.

Before Photo Gallery was shoved down our throats, we had Picture Manager, which was a great program ("program" is what us old guys used to call what is now referred to as an "app", which is short for "application", but they are all just programs.)

So, why doesn't Photo Gallery work any longer?

I have this same issue and it is very frustrating.  I see you had no response from Microsoft!

I am using pyodbc to retrieve data from MSSQL and this is the code I am using:

import pyodbc

server = 'XXXXXXXXX\DEV,43853'

#server = 'XXXXXXXXX\DEV'

#Also used second server statement and got same error.

database = 'SandBox'
username = 'Username'
password = 'password'

driver = '{SQL Server}'

cnxn = pyodbc.connect('DRIVER='+driver+';SERVER='+server+';DATABASE='+database+';UID='+username+';PWD='+ password)

#cnxn = pyodbc.connect('DRIVER='+driver+';PORT=43853;SERVER='+server+';PORT=43853;DATABASE='+database+';UID='+username+';PWD='+ password)

#Also Used cnxn second statement and got the same error

cursor = cnxn.cursor()
cursor.execute("select * from fieldscreenscheme ")
row = cursor.fetchone()
if row:
    print row

This is the error massage I got:

Traceback (most recent call last):

cnxn = pyodbc.connect('DRIVER='+driver+';SERVER='+server+';DATABASE='+database+';UID='+username+';PWD='+ password)

pyodbc.Error: ('08001', '[08001] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]Specified SQL server not found. (6) (SQLDriverConnect); [01000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). (11001)')

I installed the ODBC driver. The created the SYSTEM DSN and when it completes test successfully, but the python code does not work. Any recommendation how to solve the error?

Now that WLM is no longer available, I need to change email client for Windows 10 on another computer.

How can I transfer/import my WLM messages (thousands of messages in numerous Storage Folders) to Win10 Mail?

I've read other threads on this topic and NONE of them seem to have an answer -- they just mention uploading everything to "somewhere" &/or "repairing" WLM (which is not my problem!

I've also tried exporting from WLM to import to desktop Outlook; after carefully following directions on MS "Help" -- export seemed to go OK but then...nothing imported into Outlook.

Any suggestions?

I am NOT interested in using just web-based mail or keeping my mail on a cloud service.

I use POP for a reason and maintain local storage.

I want to be ready for the day when MS somehow remotely and w/o warning kills my WLM installation!

TIA for suggestions.

I'm using Win 10 and Live Mail using the Store folder on my computer, not the cloud. I had some internet connection problems and needed to boot to my 2nd boot HD which is Win 7. I opened Live mail, so I could receive and send some emails.

My inbox, Sent, Drafts, etc. were all empty. When I received mail it did go to my correct inbox. I found all my Inbox, Sent, etc. in Recovered items folders, but they all have " and < and all the attachments were stripped. When I rebooted back to Win 10, it's the same problem.

I do backup every night, so I have a copy of my original Store folder, so I copied it over, so I have the bad Store and new one as separate folders. I thought using the original Store in Win 10 would solve it, but it didn't. Maybe it's because I didn't include these 6 files that my backup can't backup while Live Mail is open.

 It's 6 files like Mail.MSMessageStore, WindowsLiveMail.log, temp.edb, etc. I have devised a way of backing them up at boot up before Live Mail starts a macro copies those files to a separate folder, so another words I do have those files that correspond to the date of my backup copy of Live Mail. But I forgot to add those files to my copy of Store, so maybe that’s why it didn’t work right.

So before I try this again to regain all of my old files, I'm hoping I can get some tips and tricks on working with Store, so the same thing doesn't happen again. I do think I also have lots of duplicates in Store from the recovered items folders. So it'd be nice to clean up store and also get rid of the " and < from the emails. I still have the original Store copy in tact to use.

Any suggestions?
