Question about Outlook Express

I am running Windows 8.1 with Windows Live Mail.  If I open WLM, read mail and then close WLM, I cannot reopen WLM.  There is no message connected with this failure.  If I then look in task manager I find two entries and sometimes 3 entries of Windows Live Mail (32 bit).   If I remove all those entries from task manager I am able to open WLM.  From the time WLM worked to now, I have made no changes other than the usual Windows updates.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I am still getting junk mail from an old account.  blocking it does not stop it. I have received over 100 sent to my old account in the last 4 hours, that somehow are being picked up by outlook.com and posted to my new account.  I cannot cancel my old account. so I am told.

there must be something about Windows live or outlook.com that is importing them   Please someone advise or tell me how to contact

   I've been having problems with Windows Live Mail since installing Windows 10 (and soon after uninstalling). I am now back to using Windows 7 with Classic Shell (I'll not go into my problems with Windows 10 here and now -- but they were bad too!!)

   My problem now is that every time I start Windows Live Mail there's a box saying it is recovering the date base.

   Another, no doubt related, problem is that I cannot delete items in the deleted and spam folders by emptying the folders in the usual way. I have to delete each message separately, and even then "unknown errors" often occur and I can't delete the items even singly.

  The result is that the spam and deleted folders keep filling up with old messages each time I start the program;, and I just can't keep up with the number of deletions that become necessary.

I have tried repairing and also reinstalling the program through Windows Essentials, but the same problems keep coming back.
