Question about Outlook Express

Categories for sending emails to groups of people are an essential feature of Windows Live Mail for me. These worked perfectly until last Friday, when they disappeared. Had difficulty downloading the Windows Live Mail fix from Microsoft as recommended in email late 2015. I then downloaded Windows Live Mail 2012 and all the updates to enable me to download the fix.  This enabled me to recreate categories but, each time I either logged off or went onto Outlook.com to check, the earliest category disappeared.

I posted this problem here before but got unhelpful reply saying that groups are no longer available. I objected to this and got another reply with an apology but redirecting me back to this site, so I seem to be going round in circles.

I find it difficult to believe that Microsoft would remove a functionality, namely the ability to send emails to designated groups ( Categories in Windows Live Mail).  Before I have to give up completely on Microsoft for emails, can someone please explain how I can create and retain categories.

PS I am not an IT expert. I use Windows 10, which was fine until this problem cropped up. 

I use Photo Gallery for all my tagged photos. Until recently, I had a list of all tags down the left side of my screen but I've done something and try as I may I cannot get the tags list back there permanently. Yes, I can get at the tags list by other means but I prefer my original and convenient set up. The tags list was also preceded by a files date list which I used less frequently.

I'm sure that the answer is simple and may need only 2-3 key taps to put it right but I'm clearly not connecting with the correct keys!

I'm on Windows 10 64bit on an HP DV7 laptop.

Can someone please put me out of my misery, please?

but cant find the rest of the information needed to go further with the fix 

I have two other emails that do work so don't understand why one won't work ??

Microsoft security essentials now stop when it feels like it freezes up sooner of later the last time it was running for 20 hours ... then froze up ... 20 hours seems ridiculous ..

Can someone help me with this I am an old guy ( as in I was 20 when television was invented) computer problems are for young people to solve ... But I can trim a hoof and shoe a horse...
