After resetting Windows 10 yesterday, Windows Live Mail is gone including all my e-mails, contacts, etc. Tried clicking onWindows Essentials in the removed apps folder and just goes to Microsoft website. I chatted with someone online and was told to come here if anyone could help.

I am trying to move Windows Live Mail folders from one PC to another. The first step is exporting all folders on the old PC. It runs WLM version 2012, Windows 7, both Japanese. WLM is offline. The export directory is under MyDocuments on a NTFS-formatted hard disk.

I experience numerous problems, although WLM pretends everything was exported correctly and doesn't issue any error message.

  • The exported folder structure is different from the original folder structure. For example, many folders are exported under a directory "imported folders\local folders" (actually, in Japanese, インポートされたフォルダー¥ローカルフォルダ), which doesn't exist in WLM.
This is not a big problem, just a minor annoyance.
  • Some folder names are changed. For example, a folder named "Marie Antoinette's Head" in WLM is exported as "Marie Antoi 55c".
    This is a bigger annoyance.
  • Some folders are simply not exported, whether I export all folders or the specific folder.
    This is a deal-breaker.

Due to the last point, the situation is more than annoying. It's a question of live and death, really, since the emails stored in these folders are required for work.

Is there another way to transfer WLM folders to a different PC? Is there a way to address the above problems?

EDIT: I checked the folder structure under AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and find that it is identical to the exported folder structure, including the name "Marie Antoi 55c". However, the folder structure displayed in the WLM program is different. How is that possible? How does WLM build its own folder structure from the structure in the filesystem?

Hello,

I have Windows 10 and cannot open files downloaded from my Cannon camera. It shows as a CR2 file and I am unable to find anything online after Windows 7 for converting the files into jpg. I would like to avoid paying for a converter app. Please help.

Thanks!
