My mail server (‘Orange’) is closing soon.

I need a new mail server and have chosen Gmail and created an account.

I have a laptop and a desktop both running Windows Live Mail version 2011 through Windows 10.  Both have Norton Internet Security.  Both have Windows Defender turned off.

I wish to add the new Gmail account to both computers using the POP setting.  I am old fashioned and like to delete all emails from the server as I download them.  The IMAP setting does not seem to have that facility.

I have added the new Gmail account to the laptop.  No apparent problems.

I have added the new Gmail account to the desktop. It does not work.

I have compared settings between the laptop and the desktop and they are the same.

I can still send and receive mail through my Orange server so the internet connection must be OK.

I get the following message:-

“Unable to send or receive messages for the Gmail (xxxxxxxx) account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

Server: 'pop.gmail.com'

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F

Protocol: POP3

Port: 995

Secure(SSL): No”

I have allowed access to less secure apps in my Gmail account settings but the problem persists.

I have also created a Gmail account for my wife to use and this has the same problem.

What can I do to make this work?  I am not a technician but can follow simple instructions.  Is there some safe software that will guarantee to fix the problem?
