How to fix this issue “5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first” in outlook 2011 on Mac OS X

I configured my gmail account in Outlook 2011 on MAC OS X. I cannot send and receive emails from my outlook 2011 and when i try to sending an email I get the following error "5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first".
