All Microsoft Assistance assumes Outlook.  I am NOT using outlook.  I am using Windows Live Mail.  My email address is Verizon.  I know that the service is really delivered by AOL, a Verizon subsidiary, but I was allowed to keep a Verizon address.

Getting this error message when I try to send / receive mail.  

Unable to send or receive messages for the Verizon (lxxxxxxxr) account. The connection to the server has failed.
