Starting WLM 2012 I get Windows Live Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the WLM message store.............(0x800C0155, 997).

This all came about because I had the message "A problem has occurred while trying to open this message" on some of my emails. I did a Google search and found :

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/livemail-email/windows-live-mail-2012-a-problem-has-occurred/d5fabcc7-3f14-4fb8-8893-46f898c59413?auth=1

In that post it says to run the following command via the CMD prompt:

C:Windowssystem32>esentutl.exe -d "%userprofile%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Live MailMail.MSMessageStore"

Like a complete idiot, I ran this without taking a backup first!

The command appeared to work, but now when I try to start WLM, I get the "WLM could not be started" message. I'm running Windows 10.

I again did a search and found:

In that post it advises to remove the read-only attribute to the Windows Live Mail folder as follows:

  1. C:Users&username%AppDataLocalMicrosoft
  2. right click to bring up properties for windows live mail
  3. uncheck the read only box in the general tab
  4. apply
  5. yes
  6. ok

(Except for me step 5 was "OK" to "Apply changes to this folder, sub folders and files" and step 6 was "Continue" to "You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes").
I got a pop-up box saying "Applying attributes to........ And a flying list of folders etc. when it had finished, the read-only attribute showed as cleared. I OK out of WLM folder properties, but when I try to restart WLM, I get the "WLM could not be started" message again. When I look at the properties of the WLM folder, the read-only attribute is back!

Can someone help please?
